2012 FUS Council

Kicking the forestry year off with good their good vibes. Listed below are the past executives of the 2012 FUS council.

Barbara Wong

2012 President

Barb is a 3rd year Forest Resource Management student, specializing in integrated management. Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia she’s no stranger to the city and UBC. When given a chance for some down time, she loves to read, sip hot beverages, explore, diving into mass bodies of water and travel the globe. With the love for traveling and gaining new experiences, she hopes to study or work internationally at some point of her life. Always with a smile on her face, don’t be afraid to stop her in her tracks and drop a quick hello!

Margarete Dettlaff

2012 VP Internal

Margarete Dettlaff is a third year Forest Sciences student. Raised in exotic Vancouver, she found a love of the outdoors camping, kayaking, and watching it roll by the car windows on many family vacations along the backroads of BC. When she’s not spending all her free time in the FUS office she can be found geeking out about insects, genetics, ecology, fantasy novels, video games and science fiction television.

Owen Johnston

2012 VP External

Owen Johnston is a Giant of a Man.   He is well known for several things.  Being Tall, having a Ginger Beard and having the Loudest Voice in forestry.   Less know facts include, that he’s a 3rd year Ops students, a bakery, part time knitter and a Vet. He’s goals as VPX are to rebuild old bonds with the Aggies, to challenge those ‘Geers to various competitions and get Forestry Folk out to the shootin’ range.

Vince Luu

2012 Treasurer & Sports Rep

Vince is a second year in the Forest Operations program. He spent his childhood growing up in the wild jungles of his backyard in Vancouver, and wonders what it would be like to be raised like Tarzan. Aside from that, he enjoys biking, hiking, and boarding, as well as all competitive sports. There is no such thing as bad weather for this young man. As the FUS sports rep and treasurer, he is in charge of getting foresters out of the FSC and playing sports around campus. He works with the FUS to make many events possible, enriching the student experience, and making sure the FUS expenses are well kept.

Hannah Tench

2012 Secretary

Hannah is a 3rd-year Conservation student with an ambiguous specialization, and a drive to obtain as diverse of an education as her degree will allow. Hannah can often be spotted socializing in the FUS office, furiously working in the computer lab, or walking through the building with her trusty dragon boat paddle in hand. Other activities that frequent her spare time are yoga, potlucking with friends, and enjoying the sunshine.

Joyce Ip

2012 Special Events Coordinator

Joyce Ip is a third year Conservation student who loves the outdoors and staying active by swimming, snowboarding, and hiking up mountains. She also likes to travel (Hawaii is her second favourite place, after Vancouver), dig into a really good book, and indulge in a chocolate dip donut or Marbelous cookie after a particularly long day holed up in the computer lab.

Carolyn King

2012 Special Events Coordinator

Carolyn is a second year student enrolled in the Conservation Science and Management program. She grew up in Burnaby, but spent all of her summers and most of her winters on the shores of Lakelse Lake or in the small town of Terrace BC. Carolyn can often be found in the Atrium, FUS office, or computer lab. Outside of school, Carolyn enjoys playing field hockey, dragonboating, hiking, and most anything that involves being outdoors.
